BAROMETRIC THERMOMETER

i chanced to open up a page
of quaint poetic terms
and found my poor mind slithering
inside this can of worms

the first i saw was "anapest"
i wrapped my head around
two unaccented syllables
and then a stressed one found

oh, how about "caesura"
another of the laws
you screech your poem right to a halt
............with grand dramatic pause

my favorite one was "dactyl"
no, not a haircut's name
its just a syllable that's stressed
then two more not the same

enchanted with "elision"
oh that term just made me snort
like "o'er" instead of "over"
when you needed to cut short

i loved the sound of "spondee"
what a happy sounding word
the clanging of stressed syllables
like "knick knack", how absurd

i write in no pentameter
okay, perhaps i do
but i am not aware of it
i only muddle through

i throw away the science bit
and dare to take a chance
no charts of navigation here
just fly by seat of pants
