THE BEGINNING OF TIME

if you should ask a christian
when the start of time began
they'd say "in the beginning"
when God had this six day plan
.
the greeks say there was chaos
from this chaos, came the night
which made love to the day
to bring about an earthly light
.
the chinese have a theory
that there was a giant egg
which held both yin and yang
which tried to get the upper leg
.
the japanese have notions
that a couple with a spear
stirred up the ocean brine
to make their magic land appear
.
the africans will tell you
that the life below the earth
ascended up a ladder
and that's how time first gave birth
.
but if you asked a scientist
they'd say there was a bang
when everything exploded
like a giant boomerang
.
if i was asked that question
i would have to tell you true
that life had not begun
until my time began with you
