A BLIND DATE WITH A BOOK

distrustful of new authors
i will kick them to the curb
but sometimes i'm intrigued
by what is laid out in a blurb
.
the story may sound interesting
which gives my brain a shove
perhaps they are compared
to other writers that i love
.
i delve into their photograph
inspect their smile and eyes
just trying to determine
if their words may end up wise
.
i read the lead off paragraph
and if it makes me smile
i just may take their arm
and let them lead me for a while
.
sometimes they merely disappoint
it happens now and then
and it would take a miracle
to visit them again
.
but if their book enthralls me
i will strive to seek them out
a mission , i'm now on
to find out what they're all about
.
the favorites of my authors
were just strangers once to me
now i have embraced them
as extended family
.
i'll see you in a little while
i'm nestled in my nook
i cannot be disturbed now
i've a blind date with a book
