CARRIED TO THE PEAK

 
we mostly live in valleys
on a stable plot of ground
and whisper to the mountains
that have gathered all around
.
our voices full of wonder
yet we find no words to speak
for language has no meaning
as you're carried to the peak
.
we find we're creatures, earthbound
for mad gravity is king
with fingers curled around us all
restraining everything
.
our hearts yearn to go soaring
till our oxygen is weak
the apex leaves you breathless
as you're carried to the peak
.
we gaze up at the sky
and ponder what may lie beyond
perhaps a million galaxies
where other life has spawned
.
the gift of flight from angels
is an offering, unique
you'll see a glimpse of heaven
as you're carried to the peak
