FLESH OR MIND

in the end, what will betray you ?
will it be your flesh or mind ?
the answer looms much clearer
as the passing years unwind
.
is it best to die in dignity
with your intellect intact ?
or stay as healthy as a horse
with mind, bereft of fact 
.
we do not have the option
lest we take it on ourselves
to take those books that we call life
and toss them from the shelves
.
but by nature, i am curious
so i think i'll hold on strong
and watch the regal cavalcade
till swans begin their song

Interesting questions. As you say, good we can't choose! Pray help to get through it to a better eternal life. Two thoughts from recent experience (of others!): when the mind has largely gone, that has ceased to be a concern to the owner, it is the beginning of losing a grip on things that's so hard;

and for the person who's mind is fairly strong but not body, they have to learn to accept help, which for the determinedly independant can be a hard lesson! Maybe we need to accept graciously that may be our need! Rhiannon

Some are lucky... 80 or 90 years or more.. with body and mind still intact... then a sudden terminating heart attack...
