i went down to the thrift store
as i do on my off day
i bought a shirt, a pair of pants
two CDs, i would play
.
i bought two ties, a single book
some picture frames, today
and then at last i saw it
twas a stunning gray beret
.
i did not have a mirror
but i found another way
i took a photo of myself
beneath that grand beret
.
a dollar ninety one it was
a bargain, i must say
the best of my new treasures
was this stately gray beret
.
i took my purchases up front
my wallet, out to pay
my goods were bundled in two bags
and i was on my way
.
but at the car, i soon found out
that hat had gone astray
i hurried back inside the store
and searched the aisles away
.
alas, i did not find that hat
this filled me with dismay
it must be meant for someone else
and that's how it must stay
.
at least i have the photo
they can't take that proof away
but on this day, the gray beret
had simply strolled away

Funny little incident,
Funny little incident, especially about taking the photo. Can imagine it rolling down the pavement (sidewalk?) in the wind – the tale of the grey beret contd. … ?! Rhiannon

Well if you lived here in Blighty your beret would be what we call a 'flat cap' - old working men's headgear. Tomatoes, tomaytos. Suits ya. Happy New Year
