I NAMED A STAR AFTER YOU

i had them name a star for you
it cost me fifty bucks
and for true authenticity
certificate deluxe

i pointed out your star to you
pinpointed on a chart
you told me that i was a fool
and really broke my heart

you said i blew that fifty bucks
i didn't have a case
no one has claims upon a star
you laughed right in my face

and then you did a horrid thing
i thought your act bizarre
my cert you folded to a plane
and aimed it at your star

i thought it was romantic, dear
and dreamed that you might swoon
it seemed it was the next best thing
to promising the moon

i went back to those stellar folks
a-boiling in my blood
i changed the name from "mary jane"
and now that star's called "mud"
