I SEE CONSTELLATIONS

everywhere there's patterns
in the fabric known as time
and every sound of nature
has a secret hidden rhyme
for every shadow seen by us
a dozen more there are
and i see constellations
when there isn't any stars
in every living creature
there's a soul beneath the skin
that's always sending signals
emanating from within
and it can be decoded
using dashes, dots and bars
and i see constellations
when there isn't any stars
the clouds that hide the heavens
are a wispy sullen mass
the sun that warms our planet
is a fiery ball of gas
and life is just a footprint
that the winds of time will mar
and i see constellations
when there isn't any stars
the waters of our oceans
are just molecules that cling
and crying out and laughter
is the language that we sing
to think we are alone here
is a notion quite bizarre
and i see constellations
when there isn't any stars
