i've seen a lot of paintings
and i just can't comprehend
how a mix of hue and parchment
sends my mind around the bend
.
but i've never seen a painting
that was lovelier than you
an artist could not master
all the colours in your view
.
i've seen some mighty rivers
swirling in a stream of blue
they were peaceful, yet defiant
in a course that's running true
.
but i've never seen a river
that possessed the style and grace
that flows from deep within you
in the laugh lines of your face
.
i've seen some gorgeous skies
and many more i hope to catch
a sky so vast and wonderful
as far as eyes can stretch
.
but i never saw a sky
that was wide open as your smile
which makes me want to linger
and to be with you awhile
.

Don't know whether you've chosen this 'voice' as a deliberate narrative device as counterpoint to the seeming grandiosity of art critics and distance between subject/object, but heck, it works :) Love your last two quatrains.
