LOVE VERSUS HATE

we often use superlatives

expressing depths of love

"i love you more, my dear

than love the stars that shine above"

but sometimes, hate runs deeper

so perhaps we ought to rate

the love we have for someone

up against what we most hate
.

i love you more, my darling

than i hate that special brand

of music that's provided

by a mariachi band
.

i love you more, my precious

than i hate a night time meal

of cauliflower sprouts

served up with bits of baby seal
.

i love you more than i despise

cold showers in the morn

or going to the dentist

where my teeth and gums are torn
.

i love you more than i detest

that english patient flick

or roller coster rides

that spin around until you're sick
.

i realize my love for you

must tower very tall

for i love you more than i hate

things hated most of all
