MOVIES AND POPCORN

mervin loved the movies
he loved popcorn even more
and when they were together
it was something he adored

but prices were ascending
with his budget in descent
it got hard to justify
the money that he spent

he went to see a movie
but the popcorn stand he shunned
he didn't have the moolah
in his entertainment fund

but he so missed his popcorn
that it made the film seem bad
he'd lost all concentration
and this really made him sad

he thought of sneaking popcorn
but this notion just misfired
it was against the rules
and rules were something he admired

so next time at the movies
the attendant, he disturbed
and asked to buy some popcorn
which he took back to the curb

when people left the exit
if poor mervin's eye they caught
he walked right up and asked them
all about the movie's plot

now most folks hurried onward
giving him a worried stare
but sometimes someone friendly
took the time to stop and share

and every week he did this
he became a frequent sight
the popcorn lady saw him
and took pity on his plight

she said she'd heard his story
and she had a plan in mind
she was a lonely lady
and she thought him just her kind

a perk of her employment
was free popcorn every day
and she'd be glad to share it
so he wouldn't have to pay

and if he came on thursday
that's the day that she had free
then she would sit beside him
if he thought he might agree

and he found the thought delightful
that's exactly what was done
movies, popcorn AND a girlfriend
could one ask for much more fun ?
