is there a sadder feeling
than those thoughts of "might have been" ?
if it were in your power
would you go back there again ?

back to that crucial junction
when you'd found you lost your voice
then floated down a river
that had been your second choice
.
what if we'd been together
and enjoyed each other's charms ?
the one that got away
has wandered back into my arms
.
your hindsight's twenty twenty
in the present, you are blind
you stumble past the treasures
that your fingers cannot find
.
there's pieces of the puzzle
but like cinderella's shoe
they just don't fit together
like a couple ought to do
.
who knows what crazy patterns
may the paths of life uncurl
the one that got away
has wandered back into my world
.
you're feeling a crescendo
a convergence growing near
that will wash away the sorrows
bring a bright and better year
.
your yesteryear takes over
there's a future in your past
the one you've always wanted
is the one you have at last
.
when stars are in alignment
i shall take her for my wife
