OVATION

back when she learned to walk
it seemed more often she would dance
receiving smiles from visitors
as through the house, she'd prance

her mother told her, "darling
you would make your mother proud
if someday on the stage
you got ovations from the crowd"

she practiced daily after school
and on the weekends too
she vowed to get so good
she'd make her mother's wish come true
.
she entered competitions
and she always won the cup
the other girls, although they tried
could never measure up
.
she made her big debut at last
she'd reached the proper age
and there was mother, right up front
mere inches from the stage
.
the crowd was rapt in silence
as she twisted, hopped and whirled
amazement on their faces
as her talents were unfurled
.
she had the full attention
of that big room, fully packed
then did the big finale
that was crucial to the act
.
the second she was finished
all were rising with a glow
her first night at the strip club
and she got her standing O
