PREACQUAINTED SOULS

we knew each other for a year
before we ever met
the chessboard open for a spell
but not with pieces set
before the touch of skin on skin
before the gaze of eye
there seemed to be a cosmic bond
connecting you and i
yes, preacquainted souls are we
and back in arms of time
we were a chord of blended notes
two couplets in a rhyme
alone, we wandered aimlessly
but deep inside we knew
that while you searched the world for me
i searched the world for you
before our voices sang as one
before our virgin kiss
we knew we had a missing half
that one day would bring bliss
yes, preacquainted souls are we
two rivers, side by side
that intersected now and then
to whisper and confide
now, here we are at last, my love
a mortal lad and lass
we know that flesh cannot prevail
and in time, it will pass
but ash is recreated
to the state it once had been
and i believe our inner selves
will meet somewhere again
yes, preacquainted souls are we
a love song with no end
we'll glide around the stars a while
then meet around the bend
