REFRIGERATOR BOX

some folks are highfalutin'
and they find it apropos
to reside in ivied mansions
or a fancy french chateau

but you and i are simple
with no need for opulence
we don't need a wooden cottage
with a little picket fence

we've no need for walls of concrete
that protect you like fort knox
you and i could live inside
of a refrigerator box

in a manor from amana
keeping warm in frigidaire
even warmer in a hotpoint
westinghouse ? wet's west wight dere

in the daytime, upright standing
in the nighttime, overtipped
and beneath crisp sheets of newsprint
both our bodies will be slipped

let the grass become our carpet
and the sky and stars, our clocks
you and i could live inside
of a refrigerator box

with the rent that we'd be saving
we could live quite well, no doubt
buying packs of buns and hot dogs
till the figures evened out

let the world deal with a mortgage
while depreciation rots
having nothing is quite breezy
its a headache, having lots

let our cooler be some ice cream
let our furnace be our socks
