SAD EYE JOE

sad eye joe was not an outlaw
he was quite the honest man
not prone was he to larceny
that never was his plan
.
but one night in november
joe had heard the news go down
his special girl in all the world
was moving out of town
.
joe knew he'd have to reach her
and confess the love he'd known
he'd been too shy to just say hi
so love was never shown
.
he stole the sheriff's horse that night
so love would not be spurned
there was no doubt, joe figured out
that horse would be returned
.
alas, that horse was slow as heck
joe easily was caught
the judge decreed he'd done the deed
a lesson must be taught
.
for decades, joe's been in that jail
he'll be there longer still
he spends his nights in dreamy flights
with lovely sad eye jill
