SLEEPWRITING

some people walk when they're asleep
sometimes they even run
but very few in history
have done what i have done
.
i found i'd often go to bed
and when my rest would end
i'd find a sheet of paper
with a poem that i had penned
.
of this, i had no memory
and no way to explain
but looking at my fingers
i would find an inky stain
.
now if i sat down at a desk
until a poem was caught
i'd find that i'd be lost at sea
without a single thought
.
i guess my thoughts required release
that only dreams can bring
with mind all disconnected
that allowed my heart to sing
.
this poem may seem quite shallow
though i longed to make it deep
i guess my biggest problem
was i wrote it half asleep

Alvin, I won’t mind writing in my sleep but honestly I don’t think I would want to read it. Never mind anyone else. Much of modern poets’ work is so incoherent disconnected and bizarre they might as well be asleep. “I wrote it too asleep” I do wonder!

PS. Some people fly in their sheep too, most of us even swim one, two, three, four, five, six, eight, six, a hundred, fifty-five, threety-three tooty-too …

good fun! esp last 2 lines!

though I do know sometimes ideas come when I'm 'quietly awake in the night', but have to write it down or often forgotten! has this anything to do with what Luke was writing on his blog about "‘The Tortured Genius’ and Yawning" on the Home Page of ABC?? Seemed rather odd!
