THE STORYTELLER

there are souls who know the stories
of the sun, the moon and earth
they are privy to their secrets
for they've been there since their birth

they know the reasons winds must blow
and why the ocean's wet
they know what time's forgotten
and of things unheard of yet

perhaps you may have sensed them
or perhaps you'll meet them soon
some folks will think their stories
are the ravings of a loon

the ones that try to seek them out
will fail, for it is true
the souls who tell the stories
are the ones that must find you

they will strike up conversation
starting slow, but ending fast
with a foresight of your future
and a hindsight of your past

they know who owes you favors
and they know who's in your debt
they know the truths that you have grasped
and what you'll never get

they know what light shines out of you
and where that light is shed
the souls who know the stories
are residing in your head
