a party had been planned for me
but it was a surprise
the people who had schemed it
yearned to see my popping eyes
.
it was a well kept secret
i contend i had no clue
about the preparations
of this happy little crew
.
it wasn't quite my birthday
if you think that was the case
surprises tend to happen
any rime and any place
.
the thrill of expectation
often dulls as time grows near
impromptu celebrations
cause a sudden burst of cheer
.
my day began quite normally
my usual routine
but things grew quite exciting
let me tell you what i mean
.
a bus came out of nowhere
and it knocked me on my back
then dragged me down the block a bit
until my world went black
.
but sensing something shining
i sat up and rubbed my eyes
i saw dead friends and relatives
and they all yelled, "SURPRISE"

What a brilliant twist! I
What a brilliant twist! I would absolutely hate a surprise party - I think they are a mean trick to play on someone you know wouldn't like it, but fun for those who would, I suppose. I don't like parties, full stop. But I liked your poem very much. A funny read to start the day,
thank you.
