Playing shadows on the wall,
Fire flickers from eye to eye,
From generation to generation,
From Africa where we were born,
To the distant moon where we have stood,
And looked back at earthrise,
Blue and white and fragile as the dawn.
We take the next step,
Ask the big questions,
For we are stardust and we know it now.
Our arrogance assured we stand
On the shoulders of supernovae,
Dead suns glint in our eyes
And still we read horoscopes and our children carry knives.
