Here, Now

mid-morning light
through blinds
far-off machinery
stilled
concentrated
beyond windows’
unknown figures and lines –
still day
unborn
canal boats furrow
invisible
behind the house:
today’s other days
parallel
in the minds
of others
travel
varied and multiple
under the sun:
past the canal docks’
light-spray
of wet bridges –
green leaves
through windows’
partial openings –
transparent promises of light
under the canopy’s
damaged borders:
the wheel of seconds
turns me
to where I am
here, now,
light falling
solid
on stone:
there are plenty
of trees
in the city.
