For Jack

I never believed that there were angels,
Around us every day,
But then son you were born,
And God sent one my way!
So perfect you were to see,
To all of us especially me.
I'd never have guessed,
By the recession of your chest,
Just what your fate may be.
At first you seemed so healthy,
So happy, content & bright.
I never could have predicted the fear,
Felt on your first christmas eve night.
The colour had drained away,
From your once rosey cheeks.
The sirens of the ambulance,
Rang down our silent street.
Tears rolled down my frightened face,
The quiet hurt my ears.
We raced through empty roads,
But still the journey seemed to take us years.
Bronchilitis is what they diagnosed,
Before attaching a monitor to your tiny toes.
Oxygen tubes wrapped around your head,
You looked so lost in that big cot bed.
Two months old, too young to die,
"Please save my baby", was all i could cry!
I never thought you'd reach 1 year old,
After all that's what I was told.
But for you to go this early on,
Was so, so cruel,
Your life had only just begun.
All the world around us partied,
But not me Jack, i was broken hearted.
Christmas day, came & went,
Not one pressie got opened that had been sent.
Go home & rest the doctor said,
Only to wake me from my bed,
7.20am!, no time to spare,
Jack's being rushed to intensive care.
Your breathing had worsend,
Your heart was giving in,
Decisions needed making,
Byyour next of kin.
I asked you to tell me what i should do,
Ilooked at your face &somehow i knew.
Don't give up mummy,
Your eyes seemed to say,
So i never have, not once to this day.
So countless times now, wev'e blown candles out,
And i'm so proud, i just want to shout,
"Happy Birthday Son!", Youv'e done it again,
Braving the storm & coming through the rain!
