They can take away our heroes like Pickett and Bobby Lee, they can take away our battle flag under which we fought for liberty.Oh! They can take away our culture for which thousands fought and died, but there's one thing the'll never take - my stubborn Rebel pride.
They say our founding fathers were men of hate and greed, men who fought for slavery for which we had no need. Now in their words a spark of truth to my dismay does lie, but in the North the same prevailed there was a bonding tie. But I was born in Dixie and raised the Southern way, and I will live in Dixie until my dying day. Oh! They can take away our gentle songs and our cause for which men died, but there's one thing they’ll never take - my stubborn Rebel pride.
They say today that I must pay for the sins our fathers shed, but they forget how many times we Southerners have bled. Our homes our land our very lives were torn apart by war, then the reconstruction troops anted up the score. We'll make things right we'll turn the tide did shout our overlords, they sent their carpetbaggers south in a great devouring hoard.
But when their feast was over and our land was raped and bare, the occupation troops went north without a single care. The flower that was Dixie lay dying in the dust, the petals of our heritage a lost and broken trust. Oh! They can take away my heritage under a cause for which they lied, but there's one thing they’ll never take - my stubborn Rebel pride.
But since those days so long ago and just before the end, a battle cry did spread afar... the South shall rise again! They say the symbols of our land create disharmony, they bring forth hate and bitter thoughts of days of slavery.
But when my eyes behold the flag under which my fathers died, I still think of all the things for which our people cried.
They can take away our heroes like Pickett and Bobby Lee, they can take away our symbols of the old Confederacy.Oh! They can try to hide the memories for which we fought and died, but there's one thing they’ll never take - my stubborn Rebel pride.
Today we stand my friend and I whose skin is black or brown, and we hold no thoughts of hatred no slavery can be found. I will abide by the Union creed by the rules that shape the land, but I will live in Dixie and in Dixie I'll take my stand. Oh! They can take away the many things of the land where I abide, but one thing they’ll never take - my stubborn Rebel Pride.
Under the sod and dew of the evening,
Waiting for the judgment day,
The remembered graves of the Blue,
And the forgotten graves of the Gray.
