If time to heal is time best spent alone
Though spent in company speeds it faster
Enforced within these blackish waters foam
And feelings lost contemplating plaster
Walls that crush with every passing moment
Bed that aches to see its mistress pillowed
Beard that grows and furrows ploughed in torment
Eyes that redden ride the nose that billowed
I was Spring's fool and felt a youth immortal
She was the Summer season bound to Fall
Now here stare I at Winter's frozen portal
And memories from my anguished mind do crawl
Had I this time again once more to try
I'd surely do as badly 'fore I die
