I dreamt of you, sweet sweet dreams
That sent us back to Rome.
And there, beneath a Tiber bridge,
We spent some time alone.
We sang those songs rememberèd
From engagements long before.
The martial river sang laments
And soaked my eyes red raw.
But time thereon was struck away,
And froze you to a lion.
In stone was cut that twinning gaze,
Before so gently known.
When on that bridge I visit now
Your haunch still squats there proud.
We walk there now, my love and I,
My head still in your cloud.
