She stood in the kitchen
ironing
Dark hair neatly combed back
Tumbling on gently squared shoulders

Her bare arms smoothed
the fabric
Working the iron, turning the cloth
Shoulder-blades supple and pale

I stood looking out of
the window
Ached for the weight of her breasts
as she turned and folded her dress

She walked to the fridge
and I gazed

When she opened the door
the light fell

Found the depth of her woolly black hair
