There must be a funeral going on somewhere
Miserable day for it

But the two women dressed in black
brighten things up

They are taking a stroll
past the bull-terriers
that are squatting to shit in the park

One of the women is stooping slightly
trying to compose herself
She blows her nose into a hanky

The other is offering her arm
as they turn around to walk back

It’s early
The cortege won’t have arrived yet

Their coats are a deep black
Not grey or flecked

Probably bought for today

High-street
But nicely cut, down to the knee
