The libraries are closing

Because people find their books online

The publishers and distributors
want everyone to buy their own

They've told us we don't have to wait

So now we won't

Someone wants to burn the books

And now they can

Because we're closing down the libraries

Libraries are such a human-scale thing. Like following an ox. On the plus side, I suppose someone could take it upon themselves to burn all the books, but the work will now survive.

Are you talking about us all buying everything, or of reading things electronically (online, kindle etc)?

On the latter (I've not got any kindle-type gadget, so only online sometimes) it must be useful to be able to search quickly for some sentence you read, but otherwise I feel more comfortable with being able to turn pages back and fore, and remembering often the position on the page of something I read.

Hi Rhiannon. I think probably buying, but it applies to reading, too. Not trying to be a Luddite. The Web is a (can't find appropriate adjective). I'd had a little flashback to that world of warm shelves and catalogue numbers and requesting a book that wasn't in, happy to wait a week or two for someone to finish it. Very human. Maybe this is, too.

A lovely young girl just smiled and said "Thank you" in English as I moved to let her past. She'd been watching me type. Metro momentos.
