New Year Thoughts of a Simple Man

Just finished watching It's A Wonderful Life.
Well, now. Catch those thoughts as they whizz around.
Friendly-Capitalism propaganda?
Feelgood factor fodder?
Who knows?
Faith in sticking to your values, right'n'wrong, always trying to do the right thing?
Why not?
Maybe a bit of caring, philanthropic capitalism wouldn't go amiss right now, when we've had enough of being told that anything but pure winner-takes-all capitalism delivers sub-optimal decisions and outcomes - distorts Adam Smith's perfect invisible hand.
That's just another fundamentalist tyranny.
What about humans and humanity?
The pursuit of purity doesn't leave much room for that and what is the point of this whole existence without humanity.
It would be a pretty dull rock without people.
What humans add is the potential for caring and demonstrating kindness. Nothing else on the planet really does that.
Capitalism* without George Bailey is just a cold, empty world.
Happy New Year. Xx

a pretty dull rock
Wow Parson. This was surpirisingly interesting. It sort of begins as a ramble but I have to say that I really enjoyed reading it. As a reader it doesn't get much better than that.
Your poem 'Tweed' (I think) was my favourite piece that I read last year.
And like a few others here, I am totally in awe of your prolificness and the standard you maintain.
On a secondary note - I do like my politics, but I've never heard of George Bailey - possible non-fiction piece there!
More power to your 2015 elbow.
Geoff.
Thanks for reading. I am grateful for your time.
