Prevarication Saturday

Riding thru a tunnel
Of damp autumnal birdsong
Isn’t so bad in the end
I’d oiled the chain
As a last minute thing
Sympathetic to the machine
Through the allotment gate
Taking in the tall decay of sunflowers
- Whose?
Along the muddied asphalt
Newly emerged, freshly trod
Passing the time of day
Water stands on the meadow
The river, brown and swollen
Has lost its swirl and deadly swell
Zigzag under the bridge
Through the gate and over the grid
To a different river
Tended and discreet
It parts privileged lives
From their lasting effect

"the tall decay of sunflowers
"the tall decay of sunflowers
- Whose?"
I like this, allotments have so much of a person's life poured in, the dead stalks are like gravestones for the time in summer past
"swirl and deadly swell" brilliant alliteration
"a different river
Tended and discreet
It parts privileged lives
From their lasting effect"
just great

It sounds like cycling makes
It sounds like cycling makes you notice things, as well as getting fresh air and relaxation, but the slightly greater speed seems to give quite a different experience from walking, as 'things' are passed more quickly and so more of them in the time, giving a broader pcture of the area. Sounds good to be able to get out along the river easily from where you are Rhiannon
