These words fall like dying shells
to an ancient ocean floor
Glimpsed as they descend
by anyone who cares to look
Added to and covered
by the steady tragic rain
Sinking in the sediment
crushed into a single cry
Abandoned by the sea
blasted from the quarry-face
A monument of voices
cacophony of shattered dreams
And still the words keep falling
to settle in the mud
