Time of our lives

At low points
the insults surface
like muddy bubbles
of marsh-gas.
“I’ve never liked you.”
she belches.
We eye each other
across the scattered photo-frames.
“Shall I put the kettle on?”
I ask.
“Have I got any milk?”
I rise to go to the kitchen.
“You’re just like your dad.”
she fires the bullet into my back.

It's hard to think we may
It's hard to think we may have to be cared for in the future, but we can try now to prepare ourselves to be gracious and pleasant to the carers if it were to happen.I can remember in my 20s being challenged if I found old people difficult, to prepare for my own old age! It was in the context of praying for God's help in so doing
Also remember when my father-in-law was being very difficult in dementia, my son saying something like, 'It reminds you to get on with your sanctification now while young' Rhiannon
