The woodpecker

The woodpecker
whom we imbue with such mysticism
cloak in so much secrecy
lives an open life
in the centre of this town
I hear him now
hammering above the tables
sweltering alongside the chattering families in the shade
I believed in his exoticism
like I believe in the goodnatureness
that lives in such abundance here
Like I believed in tradition
