A Glorious Day

The day was sun kissed in that summer way
Flowers blooming in poetic profusion
added to my happiness in being alive
Even the concrete sidewalk felt different
Comfortable, as I walked along familiar streets
The whizzing traffic and car horns
A cacophony of sounds cocooning me
Rich accents in a myriad of conversations
Simultaneously ebbing and flowing as I walked
The aroma of fresh baking bread
as I pass the Eagle bakery
stops my movement for a moment
and I think about going in
But my mind is too adventurous
to give up even one minute
of this glorious day
So I walk on
Neighbors nod as I pass
navigating our way on the sidewalks
Now a roadway
of alternating walking patterns
My destination
lies one block away
I can see the trees peeking
over the three story houses
and I smile
This park is my muse
My familiar happy place
My escape and my
Lifelong friend
I walk through
its cast iron, gated entrance
And the noise of the city streets
Evaporates like magic
I hear birdsongs
I feel sunshine
I breath
the sweet, sun kissed air
And I am light
And free
And one again
with nature

Lovely poem Penny, it was
Lovely poem Penny, it was good to arrive at the park, those last four lines set the poem off nicely.
I also loved the lines:-
The aroma of fresh baking bread
as I pass Eagle bakery
stops my movement for a moment
and I think about going in
They're always tempting aren't they?
Very much enjoyed reading.
Jenny.
