Never trust an egg. You don’t know how it’ll roll

Dada egg

As he watched the egg flip out of the frying pan and flop to the floor, he knew it was going to be an ignoble death. Not honourable, not moving, or especially significant.

Simultaneously, he viewed his foot slip along the tiles towards the grease pool, with the jellyfish egg floating in the middle of the deep fat sea. He saw his boot and noticed its shabbiness, rather worn and tired, and he had the fleeting and not very profound thought like boot, like life.

And so his boot met the egg.

His last thought was of his son and his little shoe that he’d saved from when he was a baby. Wrapped precious in cotton, along with some of his first curls and he wondered if he’d be missed.

When his head smashed against the counter, he made his own ketchup. A ghastly breakfast. It was a ridiculous death and damned undignified, but it was his.
