"In the bleak midwinter..."

“…frosty wind made moan…”
“Blow this for a game of soldiers!” The Wind said, stopping, gasping a bit and leaning heavily against one of the trees in the wood, which groaned alarmingly. “Oh, give it a rest!” The Wind snapped, “I’ve hardly touched you! Get some backbone!”
“Problems?” Asked the Snow, falling gently all around.
“Problems? I’ll say there’s problems!” The Wind snapped, “I’m knackered, that’s the problem! I’ve been running around like a blue…well, like something demented, for days now and I’ve had enough”
“It’s winter” The Snow said, reasonably, “we weather elements can expect nothing less”
“Oh yeah, that’s easy for you to say” The Wind snarled, “all you’ve got to do is fall! Any bloody fool can fall. It’s not falling that’s the tricky bit”
“Take a break,” The Snow suggested, “Put your feet up!”
“What bloody feet? I haven’t got feet any more than you have” The Wind gestured to the ground.
“Have a rest and a drink, then” The Snow tried again.
“Oh yeah, have a drink, right?” The Wind picked up a puddle and banged it, angrily, against the tree, which groaned again. “Some chance! Look, the water’s like a stone, thanks to your frosty mate”
“It’s winter” The Snow shrugged, which isn’t easy.
“It’s winter.” The Wind mimicked, “I know it’s bloody winter, it doesn’t stop me being knackered, does it?”
“We must all do that for which we are suited” The Snow said, primly.
“Well, I’m not suited, I’m snookered. I could do with a holiday,” The Wind leaned back against the tree, put his hands, metaphorically, behind his head and stretched out, “a nice fortnight in summer would suit me down to the ground”
“I wouldn’t know about summer” The Snow said, wistfully.
“Oh, it’s the dog’s” The Wind nodded, “once in a blue moon I get a day or two, there” He sighed, as only The Wind can, “but, just as you’re getting used to it, breezing along as it were, wallop, you’re kicked out and it’s back to being in this miserable hole”
“The only time I get to see summer is from the top of a mountain” The Snow said, glumly.
“See, there’s nothing good to say about winter” The Wind looked around him and sneered, “just look at the state of it!”
“I think it’s rather pretty” The Snow said, proudly.
“You would!” The Wind tutted, “that’s because you don’t have to dig your car out of you, of a morning”
“Well, at least I’m not destructive” The Snow sniffed, “you just knock things over, hurl stuff all over the place”
“Not destructive?” The Wind looked astonished, “what about when you decide to have a bit of a run down that mountain you were going on about? Eh? Everything gets flattened in your way”
“Yes, well…” The Snow blushed a bit, “It’s just that…I like to get a bit closer to the summer once in a while” The Snow admitted, sniffling a little.
“All I’m saying is that we can all be a bit…heavy handed” The Wind shuffled a bit and looked embarrassed.
“Well, perhaps not Frost” The Snow mused.
“Oh yeah? Have a look at an iceberg sometime” The Wind pointed out.
“You’re gusting too much, that’s your trouble” The Snow suggested.
“I blame the sprouts” The Wind admitted.
“Fancy a blizzard?” The Snow asked, temptingly.
“You know just how to get round me” The Wind winked.
“I think you’ll find, it’s the other way around” The Snow said, seductively, shimmering a little.
In the whiteness that ensued, the forest trembled.

That was SO GOOD!!! THANKYOU
That was SO GOOD!!! THANKYOU very much for making me smile :0) We watched Dune for our Christmas film, and though i liked it more than than the first version, it couldn't be described as fun. Unlike your wonderful story - I will never think of the wind in the same way again! Loved the bit with the puddle :0)

Hi Phil,
Hi Phil,
I loved the idea of giving the wind, snow and tree a personality. Very creative and a pleasure to read.
Thank you.
Congrats on the well deserved gold cherries.
Jenny.
