Keys to end sorrow
P K Routray
Four aphorisms appear in Indian scripture
to aid man to end his misery and mental torture
Possession of material wealth is purely transitory,
vanish will those surely one day from a locked treasury.
Why should one amass the wealth beyond one’s need,
which robs a man of his happiness and makes his heart to bleed.
Desire to plunder and store more food, cloth, land and wealth
is a cause of human agony and tell upon his emotional and physical health.
Power, position, throne and crown do never stay for long
Today’s monarch is tomorrow’s beggar, a saying, which never went wrong.
To hanker after pelf and power is a foolishness of highest order
temporary possessions they are and their loss certainly painful to the possessor.
Union is certainly followed by separation
While enjoying the union one should bear this in mind to avoid frustration.
Anything born is mortal and is bound to die
though the time of death is uncertain but it does flee and fly
the continuous contemplation of this leads to prayer and to surrender,
all are transitory and mortal, if borne in mind why man should suffer.
Thirst for accumulation of materials, aspiration for power,
longing for permanent union and the immortality are the cause of sorrows to shower.
