Mercy killing
P K Routray
Photo I see,
shocks to me,
wretched I feel
frustration I cannot conceal.
Divinity we flout
Our humanitarian traits I doubt,
Inhumanity we squander,
disparity I ponder,
bleeding hearts in galore,
sympathetic sighs I hear.
Claim of prosperity, I question,
lack of sincerity in our deeds I do listen.
Too busy for own greed, we always caution.
Still no concern to alleviate, I am certain
The child cannot survive, I foresee
painfully he lives, painfully he will die.
Diseased, emaciated fighting alone,
poverty all around him is known.
Love has deserted him
owing to situations dire and grim,
it needs too long a period
as the child has problems are myriad
to be capable to stand
as the fury of his life will demand.
He needs much delicate care
and multipronged nourishment to share
no chance visible in sight.
painful torturous is his life to fight
Finding no way
Him I pray
“Oh God! Kill him out of mercy
as I am sure you cannot see
and spare time and energy
to enable him live healthy
and overcome all hurdles,
all ill lucks, all adversities and all devils.
This is only one we cite
billions of such cases are in our sight.
our greed you have failed to trim
Hence Oh God! Out of mercy kill him.”
(written based on a photo of an emaciated hungry crying lone crawling child)
