Mother’s Day
P K Routray
A mother’s day
regards and respects for mothers to pay
in an organized and grand way
her contribution is remembered, we say.
Forgotten then for a year at old age home she will continue to stay
the reminder call will awaken us to remember her and then for her we may pray.
All mothers are same despite cast, creed, country and religion
Her love for her children remains unaltered despite the lack of reciprocation or alternation.
An old emaciated lady hardly able to stand once was found in a church
praying for her son a grown up man without giving heed to own wellbeing as such.
Neither age nor health nor poverty can dent on motherly affection,
Her priority remains her children and her children alone as universally known.
The cry was our first sound
when light and air on the earth we found
it was our expression of gratitude to mother
whose breast then bled milk for us out of cheer
The deadliest pain on the earth she did forget
as our babbling thanks her heart could get.
At our infancy every moment was mother’s day
till from her we stayed and were moved away.
After marriage and with family of our own
the mother was no body and was lost in oblivion
We then sent her money as our only duty
or sent her to old age home out of human pity
No time for her we can spare,
no service we can offer to take her care
she is old will leave her mortal body on any day
only as a novice child in her arms the gratitude I could pay.
On this mothers’ day
“Thank you mother”. only I can say.
