Need Versus Greed
(Shelter)
P K Routray
In summer, rain and winter
needs a man protecting cover
for his own self and for his each family member
tiny babies, ailing wife, old father and mother.
Poverty and inability under alien situation
forces the man to live in misery and wretched condition.
No clothes, he can have to give them barest warmth
to withstand the snow fall and the wintry wind’s wrath.
The hail storm and torrential rain is too heavy for human body,
a roof and walls are must to save these needy.
The scorching heat and hot wind in summer,
the shed of the tree is not sufficient to protect the man thus to bear.
Protection from the menace of animals, birds and from alien atmosphere
a house is the bare necessity for shelter.
For sleeping to rest after a day’s hard labor
a house is the need in summer, rain and winter.
For ostentatious show off, need also is a luxurious house.
For increasing irge for luxury comfort, the greedy needs do rouse
Worries to own it, protect it and add to it
cause tensions, blood pressure to rise and sleep to quit.
Too much comfort is baneful to a man’s physique
Medication is oft required as god gifted immunity system gets weak.
Still man hanker after opulence of luxury beyond the need of shelter
What may come, his house and comfort should be better than his neighbor.
But mind it, wealth and power cannot substitute natural resources
too much greed robs off mother earth these nothing will be left for future uses.
Before it is late, force upon these greedy monsters
cut them to size or else to the vanishing creation we have no answers.
If the greed of owning and possessing beyond need will vanish
the need of the needy is fulfilled, the mankind as a whole will flourish.
