Striving’s trenchant clarion-call has receded
and you’re gratefully asleep.
You’ve earned it so take comfort in
your frenzied dreams.
Take time from petty intercourse
and dogged transaction,
take off your work face and veteran grimaces
and resume your natural shape.
Fear not, you are sinless,
because who could ever know you?
Truth is a vapour; instead we settle
for rest as our refuge from dismay.
But when stillness seems to reign,
even the beleaguered paving stones
can be heard to murmur odes of thanksgiving
in the fertile precipice of night.

I like the stuff you write
I like the stuff you write poette. I especially like this. Walrus and Vera are both spot on; the quality do the poetic language on display here is indisputable. I think that this is so beautifully crafted, especially 'veteran grimaces' and the last line is as good as last lines get.
This poem speak eloquently of the clamour and the crush of existence and hints deliciously at the sanctity brought by tranquility. Well deserved cherry pick. You have talent there's no doubt about it. The poetry here is excellent.

There's nothing new under the sun, Poette, and all artists and writers bounce ideas off one another.
