Live Before You Die

So sick at this parody of myself
pushed into angles
that don’t conform to me at all.
There’s a space in my mind
where the sign reads
'Reserved Parking' – for residents only!
Yet somehow, I don’t feel
like an inhabitant should
I like to leave my suitcase in the hall
with my shoes pointing towards autonomy.
I enjoy raising a belligerent hand
at the suit and compulsory smile brigade
their skyscraper heads
hastening to work
with their airs of remiss, being paid
for by the hour.
Today - is but a beat of time
a one-way ticket – with no packed
lunch to help us digest the hours.
True everything changes
and yet nothing will get the chance
if we die -
before we have ever managed to live…
