There were over 40 tenants of which most were over 60,Staggering briskly along, the dim half lit stair Well trying to focus while at times tripping down 70 or more steps, which became a task for some of The fittest tenants but more challenging for the other, fragile or not mobile tenants. That's why most of Us was barely co-hear-ant never mind knew what was going on,as we vacated out of the well Maintained, but structurally old building that I believed was built in the 60's or 70's 10 story Block of flats, with no lift to take the brunt of all our weight and elderly moans and Groans.Poor Edith had of Early stages dementia, and thought it was am and we were all about to go on holiday, she had Remembered a time before her illness when she and her late husband, would take their 3 children to Margate for their annual trip away, they use to make sandwiches, which usually consisted of egg and cress and leave early in the morning. It took us over an hour to convince her it wasn't an holiday and where we all were, it was heartbreaking to watch her excitement turn into tears.
After standing outside for over 2 hours in the freezing wet cold winters night, and not half as many warm clothing we should of had on. A very nice young fire officer gave us the all clear to go back inside. Thankfully we did learn It wasn't another saucepan fire that had been left on by war veteran Joe, who always came in at am drunk out his skull since coming back from the war. No this time it Was our turn to be a target of a joke, there were other attacks in the Bristol area, these old flats with Bin Shoots in the communal corridors were easy for any one to set on fire.We may be old but we still remember what it's like to be bored and want to have fun, but its' a shame no one who does this sort of things, spare a thought what their ten minute thrill will cause.
Not thinking or caring about people like poor Mrs Hutchinson,Who has just undergone cancer treatment for the second time,or what about Sally Croft, Who's just had twins and a lone parent with a double buggy to deal with, and Mr Smit who was Blinded by thugs when been robbed for his bit of pension. And the tired, brave fire officers who not only have to deal with many calls, but have to deal With these hoax calls.Or the money that is wasted when it could be used to fund a Playground, youth Centre, or sports hall.
No sadly, these selfish people never think or care what impact this as on Innocent people who suffer Because of one insensitive uncaring action. But While I lay on my lonely worn down bed,but still Shattered from last nights antics, I pray, I never become that way oh Lord.
