Set free, liberated timid bird
cage door swings open allowing her release
while quivering, shivering delicate wings
she delights in images of blue sky's
shimmering clouds, fragrant blooms
sunlight dancing upon glossy feathers
experiencing her maiden flight.

Open door enticing
fulfilling precious dreams
yearning to discover
taking first tentative step
her gnarled claw lifts
of her perch
quick, opportunity missed
cage door closes, latched
quivering shivering timid bird
turns, faces grey wall.
