The boatman and the boat

The river that you’re crossing
is not one filled with snakes.
But it is a kind of vacuum,
that appears to have high stakes.
For the price you pay the boatman
is the assuaging of all fear.
The placing in correct position,
of all that you hold dear.
That seems a simple mission,
when explained in flowing prose.
But the reality is harder
as your solar plexus knows.
But the boatman he is patient
he’ll wait till your life’s end.
And if you don’t manage the lesson,
he’ll bring you back again.
Your feet are walking in the water,
you’re holding onto breath.
You’re terrified you’ll falter,
find yourself outside your depth.
The distant shore you know already,
it’s familiar and it’s sound,
You have already placed your energy,
upon its hallowed ground.
For you’ve crossed that unseen river,
many times within your life.
In those momentous moments,
when you surrendered to the light.
For the passage oe’r this river,
is not one of brute control.
It’s the acceptance of creation,
and the purpose of your soul.
So you’re both the boat and boatman,
and neither of the two.
The ease of passage across this river,
is entirely up to you.
