Politicians do you listen?

Dark clouds are on the increase,
explosions rent the air.
Is there a mood for more destruction?
Is there anybody there?

Who considers what will happen,
if we go to war again?
In the guise of peace and freedom,
bringing innocents more pain

I am just one individual
who lives her life without much fuss.
But as the tempature rises,
I find I don’t know who to trust.

I can see you’ve made your minds up,
and are spoiling for a fight.
At times I even think, that
you believe that you are right.

But with all the broken bodies,
lying rotting in the ground,
Should not lessons be extracted
from the last and bloody round?

I may not strap myself to railings,
or to weapons on the move.
But believe me when I tell you,
silence does not signal ‘I approve’.

For my breath it is a-catching
as your proclamations fill the air.
I feel neither peace, nor freedom,
comes with bombardments from the air.

At least not the peace I value,
one that builds my own respect.
For my self, and for my country
and for the values we project.
