Waiting in a well

Within the ground it’s silent,
apart from the deepest hum.
The walls are tight around me,
I want the light to come.
I want to be uplifted,
feel confident and bright.
I have images of freedom,
but still the earth holds tight.
When I push I get exhausted,
fall tired against the wall.
The last time I felt this held,
I simply can’t recall.
I relax into the rhythmn
of the passing night and day.
I am here to learn a lesson,
what it is I cannot say.
But I know one thing for certain,
when it arrives I’ll be attuned.
Without constant restless movement,
my consciousness has room.
