Beyond the window
By queen beatle

In the house of petrification
the air feels much the same
as it did in August
when it felt much the same
as it did in March.
The outer world
puffs breath on bare windows
to write its names.
Goose down plucked
from the god rays
combing over Nova Scotia
and, from desert hamsters
warm belly hairs
brushed off the lips
of their sandy burrows;
such nesting gifts travel
to swifts and martens
on the swirling wind.
Ants and honey bees congregate
to decorate eggs
on springy moss beds
where tardigrades make merry.
Within the waxed walls
light is the only thing living.
It browses barren shelves
contemplates the butterfly
embalmed in withered cobweb
and retreats unheeded
through the floor.

optimistic
Peculiar that it's both barren and yet busy with life, even if at some point light is the only thing living.
