The Lost Princess

In distant lands there once did dwell,
A captured princess all forlorn,
In hidden towers locked away,
From eyes of man both dusk’til dawn.
Her beauty captivated men,
Her radiance so pure,
And many souls did lose their life,
Their hearts did beat no more,
Battling through forests dark,
Through monsters in enchanted woods,
But non could save the princess
Though toil and give his blood.
‘Til one find day a handsome prince
cried out the forests name,
“This story is but make belief
And this is just a game!”
And with his words those monsters died
And the prince made for his love,
No more enchanted forests,
Scarred by another’s blood.
So on he rode upon his horse,
So gallant, tall and white,
But when he came upon the towers,
No princess was in sight,
And to a broken man that day,
A wise old owl did call,
“Well that goes for your princess too!
She isn’t real at all!”
So sadly went the handsome prince
Back to another time,
The land where all good tales breathe life;
It is, within my mind.
