The Bulldog Bites
It was my 42nd birthday last week. It's a good age I think. I'm still young and feisty enough to consider world domination, but mature enough to realise that it will never happen. Anyway, in my mind, I'll always be 25 and that's that.
As I woke up on the day and drank my tea, I began to think about mortality. You know, people I admire and such. Who at my age is still around, and also, who is kind of dead at present. A bit morbid for my birthday you're thinking, but hey, I'm single and a huge Nick Hornby fan.
Elvis Presley died when he was 42. One of the great 20th century icons, who, even now, grows in stature and grace. I loved him when he was at his peak in the 50's. I hate to think of him at his end. Overweight, over prescribed and overcooked.
We have a wonderful Elvis night at the Millfield in a couple of weeks. The divine Barb Jungr will be giving us her take on some of the king's classic songs. Believe me, I have seen this show three times, and it's sublime.
Don't worry about me. I intend to go on for a few years yet. I going to stay off the peanut butter and keep rocking. I can do that, because I'm 25.
Barb Jungr, Love Me Tender: Saturday 29th April at 8pm
